Group Descriptions & Schedule

Sioux Falls Clinic:

Beyond Trauma Group for Women

The Beyond Trauma Group is a psychotherapy group for women healing from past trauma and learning to reclaim their lives.  Participants explore coping methods, define new "normal" for thier lives, and learn who they are as a woman.  They share what they chose to and what they are comfortable with.  The group is open and there are no attendance requirements.  The group is facilitated by a female co-credentialed counselor.  Mental health and substance use issues are addressed as needed.  A strength-based, solution-focused approach to therapy is taken.

Group meets every Wednesday 9:00 to 10:30 am.

Pierre Clinic:

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT)

MRT is a cognitive-behavioral counseling program that combines education, group, individual counseling, and structured exercises designed to foster moral development in treatment-resistant clients.  As long as clients' judgments about right and wrong are made from low levels of moral reasoning, counseling, training on new job skills, and punishment has little long-lasting impact on future behavior.  Client must be confronted with the consequences of thier behavior and the effect it has had on their family, friends, and community.

MRT addresses beliefs and reasoning.  It is a systematic, step-by-step group counseling treatment approach for treatment-resistant clients.  The program is designed to alter how clients think and make judgments about what is right and wrong.  The MRT system approaches the problem of treating resistant populations as a problem of low levels of moral reasoning.  In this case, "moral" does not refer to a religious concept, but rather the theoretical conceptualization of phychologist, Lawrence Kohlberg.  Moral reasoning represents how a person makes decisions about what her or she should or should not do in a given situation.
