South Dakota Urban Indian Health staff (Donna Keeler, Executive Director and Ellen Rogers, Fiscal Manager) attended an annual IHS Children/Youth Grant workshop in Denver, Colorado during August 5-6, 2008. Several programs that operate throughout the United States met in Denver to learn about other children/youth programs and ways to improve grants and expand services.

South Dakota Urban Indian Health provides services through this IHS grant by providing the Catch Your Dream Program which offers Reading Circles for elementary children (grades 1-5) in Aberdeen and Pierre.

Reading Circles are to offer children an opportunity to learn about their heritage and culture through stories and activities. The purpose of the grant is to improve interest in reading and develop better reading skills to improve school work.
