KCCR Radio Broadcast

Transcript, Pierre, Oct. 17, 2008, 7am

  1. Tell us about your agency (who you serve).

South Dakota Urban Indian Health has been in operation for 31 years. We have three clinics across SD. We are a primary care clinic that focuses on native American healthcare and we also serve the un-insured and the under-insured. Therefore, our doors are open to anyone. We operate from 7AM to 5PM and have now started Saturday urgent care clinic from 9-noon.

  2. How does the United Way funding that your agency receives help your agency?

The United Way is a great community partner that helps SDUIH with funding for lab supplies, test kits, an EKG machine. Lead Screening machine, and other preventative screening tests. Through the generous support of the United Way, we are better equipped to serve our clients.

  3. Are there things that your agency needs?

We are always looking for more funding to support our operations and programs. We also ask for the continued support of the Pierre community and our patients.

  4. If someone is listening that has never given to the United Way before, what would you tell them? Why should people support the United Way?

Giving locally to the United Way helps support many community based programs which in turn benefits the citizens in this community. By supporting and building community networks, we can all work together to help make the Pierre/Fort Pierre Community a stronger, healthier community.

  5. How would your agency or the programs supported by the United Way be affected if you did not receive this funding?

Unfortunately, without the support of the United Way, we would not be able to offer some tests, screenings, or other preventative services which have enhanced our patient services.
