Pierre Clinic: New addition, 2008
Traditional Room
The Traditional Room is a new addition to the Pierre clinic – with the Medicine Wheel designed in the ceiling. This room is used for Board and community meetings and staff training. The room can accommodate meeting groups up to 25, computer training for 15 and can be re-arranged to accommodate smaller meetings as well.
The Mural
James Meeter and Clarence Pay Pay painted the plains and buffalo mural on the retaining that looks out of the Traditional Room. The intent is to feel as though you are looking at the past of what this area was like and to continue the connectivity between the Traditional Room and our surroundings outside. This area is where the South Dakota Urban
Indian Health Tipi will be set up.
Exercise Room
The exercise room has several pieces of professional grade exercise equipment for patients to use between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday - Friday, as well as
every other Saturday morning. Please check with clinic staff for detail
on the schedule. Equipment includes treadmills, an elliptical, a recumbent bike, a nu-step and a weight machine. Joe Dudley a Native American physiologist (enrolled member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe) assists patients to determine and develop healthy workout plans.
Teaching Kitchen
In conjunction with our efforts to improve health and physical needs, South Dakota Urban Indian Health developed a Teaching Kitchen program. Classes will include meal planning; shopping and budgeting; and meal preparation. South Dakota Urban Indian Health is developing the classes to be held during lunch hour and after work (6:00 p.m.). As the program develops more information will be provided to the public and our patients.
