Native American Day

Native American Day, SD State Legislature

South Dakota Urban Indian Health staff attended the Native American Day at South Dakota Legislative. The event took place in the South Dakota Capitol Rotunda on January 17, 2006. South Dakota Urban Indian Health displayed their program booth and provided program information, Diabetes Foot Care booklets, Winter Quarterly Newsletter and SDUIH coffee mugs and visors. Sponsored by the Urban Indian Health Clinic in Pierre, Cante, Tawacin and Tancan — the program’s theme in Lakota — was created to help women of American Indian heritage live healthier lifestyles. Blessing Ceremony, Pierre

Logan Curley Sr., middle, a Cheyenne tribal elder, led a blessing ceremony on Monday at the future site of the S.D. Urban Indian Health Clinic in Pierre. Curley traveled from Montana with Logan Curley Jr., far left, and Moke Eagle Feathers, far right, to meet with Aaron Swan, second from left, the clinic’s board president, and Donna Keeler, executive director for the clinic, second from right, and bless the new clinic building and grounds in a traditional American Indian ceremony. Staff members from the health clinic who also attended the ceremony included Cecily Vanderwalker, Michelle Red Willow and Amy Marshall. 2004

New Construction in Pierre

New Construction in Pierre

The clinic will move this spring from its present location on East Dakota Avenue to Prairie Vista Estates to a new building and lot that will have five exam rooms, a parking lot and handicapped-accessibility for patients. 2004
